Well, it has been an arid month on the blog. I haven't being having a terrific time, to be honest, and have also largely been without communications because we are STILL waiting to have our broadband connected (after 8 weeks). Anyway. I have lots of catching up to do on what people have been up to. I haven't been doing very much, although the club at school has been going great guns. More on this soon, but amongst other things we now have a club badge:
I'm very privileged to work somewhere where I can say to my boss 'Boss, can we get a badge for Wargames Club with Thor's hammer on it?' and he doesn't bat an eyelid. The club motto is NON MALLEUS BELLI EST, a response to the single most common question I get asked about the club. Special virtual hugs for whoever can tell us what it means.
I heard a great story today too from one of my colleagues. His father had been the driver of a Sherman through the whole Italian Campaign, and used to tell my colleague about how terrified they all were of ambushes going into Italian villages. To keep their courage up they installed a fishtank inside the turret filled with red wine, with tubes running to all the crew positions. Such a great image!
Hope you are all well, and I look forward to catching up on all your news when my comms improve.
Very nice badge. It's a wild guess (latin wasn't taught at the run down comprehensive I attended) but roughly "It is not Warhammer."
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Matt
To paraphrase Crocodile Dundee, "That's not a warhammer; THIS is a warhammer!"
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you back on the air, Dux!
I'll have a go at claiming the virtual hug. Does the latin translate as
ReplyDelete"It's not Warhammer!"?
Nifty little badge there. Love it!
Nifty badge. Looking forward to hearing more from you.

DeleteBadges!!Badges!!!!.......of course we need badges, very nice and good to hear you're still kicking!
ReplyDeleteWell Google says "Hammer is not war" and it isn't really but I suspect the other translations are closer.
ReplyDeleteNice work on the badges!
Hugs all round! It is not warhammer indeed!
ReplyDeleteNow I know I like that badge even more

Very clever Alan. And great anecdote.
ReplyDeleteGreat badge and motto. Sorry to hear about the internet. It's funny when you can't get them to take your money.
ReplyDeleteGlad to have you back Alan, in the fine words of Bill Oddie from the goodies, "OOO, you know I am a sucker for badges". This was the scouts episode ah what fond memories, world domination badges etc
ReplyDeleteCan I drop a line to in regards to running a club at school. I help run a local club but the shift to card games is making the miniatures take a back seat an di wonder if I can't rekindle it at school.
Cheers Chris
Hi Chris - please do! I love that episode of the Goodies as well.
DeleteThe Lone Scout...plus one!
