13th Century German Knights

Well, I haven't finished any projects in a while, but here are some figures I painted for a double-sized Medieval German DBA army about 5 years ago. Figures are a mix of Italeri, Zvezda, Caesar and Strelets. If I was doing this again now I would be using a lot of wonderful Valdemar figures. I hope you enjoy them.

  3. Very nice!, are they all painted as real knights coats of arms?

  4. Yay for 1/72 DBA! Looks good. I'm glad to see you didn't have to deal with molded shield and barding designs. I hate those. I tried slicing off the shield designs from my Italeri Celts, but the shield looks all messed up after.

  6. THanks for the kind comments.

Andrew - most of the shields and trappings did have moulded designs. It was a nightmare carving them off.

Ray - most of the shield designs are from the Manesse Codex, a great register of German heraldry from c.1300. The whole thing is digitised by Heidelberg University:

  7. Great looking figures. There can't be many things more impressive than a group of medieval knights in full flow (even mini ones!).
